If you missed last evening’s game between the Atalnta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies, I don’t blame you. In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Phillies quickly were leading the Braves 4-0. I shock my head, dolled my eyes, and said to myself I’m not going to watch this beat down in Philadelphia. No thank you, I will not bear witness to another cracking of the Liberty Bell in Philly. Since the Braves are division rivals, instead of a bell I thought they may substitute a Braves batting helmet.
Joel De La Cruz started the game for the Braves in search of his first win. Well allowing 4 runs in the 1st inning usually doesn’t allow for a win or let’s face it, another inning. The manager of the Braves Brian Snitcker knew something I didn’t know when it came to De La Cruz. I guess that is why he is a MLB manager and I switched over to a lonely Friday night movie of The Force Awakens. However, although I diverted my eyes to another television screen, I just put the Braves game on mute. I could sperratically check the score. In the 2nd inning the Braves rallied and it was 4-1. Small rallies are good. The Braves offensive was hitting the ball well.
Enter Matt Kemp! In the top of the 4th inning he blasted a 3 run home run tying the game 4-4. Now it was time to lower the volume on the Star Wars movie! I took the Braves game off mute now. Turn the volume up, way up! Loud enough so I felt like I was at the ballpark but not loud enough to get the others in my household annoyed. The Braves continue their hitting ways. Unfortunately, do did the Phillies. Snitcker finally pulled the plug with De La Cruz. His first win would not come in Philadelphia. Darn it, but this is a team sport. Snitcker had to do what is best for the team.
In the top of the 9th inning with the score still tied 4-4 the Braves top of the order up was due up. Ender Inciatre lead off with a hit. Aldnois Garcia followed with a solid hit moving Inciatre over to second base. Then in the batter’s box, stepped Freddie Freeman. I could feel the hair on the back of my neck standing up. Just get a hit Freddie! Inciatre will score easily on a base hit, he’s fast. Freeman did get a big hit. Doubling with a base hit to the left field. Garcia stopped on third, but the Braves took the lead 5-4. Freeman had done his job and he did it well. Matt Kemp was not taking a back seat, he lined a double scoring Garcia and Freeman. 7-4 Braves. By the way Kemp is on 2nd base with no outs. Classic Braves hitting as of late!
This season has given me a lot of hope and excitement. The one thing I would love to see the Braves do is take over the Phillies in the NL East. That isn’t much of an accomplishment but it’s enough for this fan! Keep those arms chopping Braves Universe, we have a new goal. Take over the Phillies!
