Last night game in San Fransisco was a game for the ages. Going into the 9th inning, the San Fransisco Giants were only 3 outs away from forcing a final game in Chicago. Something that doesn’t happen very much is another baseball team scoring 4 runs in San Fransisco, unless of course we are talking about the 2016 Chicago Cubs.
This team is absolutely amazing to watch. Theo Epstein, the General Manager of the Cubs, has worked his magic again. The first time Epstein helped the Boston Red Soxs end their 56 years drought without a World Series title. This long drought was known as the corse of the Bambino. There was no curse, they don’t exist. October is Halloween month, so ghost stories are on nightly and curses and hauntings are a familiar theme. Now it’s time for the curse of the billy goat in Chicago. Can Epstein help build a team that can end the Cubs long streak of 108 years without a World Series title. Listening to the Curse of the Bambino and the Curse of the billy goat are fun fireside stories to tell. If I were to say there is a Curse of a Wrist Watch, you’d probably listen to it. But in the end you would know this story has no meaning and made up.
Focusing back on the baseball game, the Giants did manage to score 5 runs.Buster Posey was 1-2 with an RBI. Denard Span had a nice night offensively as well going 2-5 with 1 RBI. Conor Gillaspie had an amazing night going 4-4. Matt Moore also went 1-3 with an RBI. Normally with that much hitting and a late inning lead going into the 9th inning, surely some baseball fans headed to bed and had dreams of a game 5 in Chicago. Wrigley Field, home of the Cubs would be very loud and the stadium might actually shake. It’s an old stadium although it is very well maintained. A rocking and possibly moving stadium might sound scary, like the curses we discussed earlier. The Cubs wanted the game to end last night in San Fransisco, and they got their wish. It might of been better to celebrate in Chicago, but winning a series is much more important.
The Cubs players gave 100% and then a bit more. Ben Zobrist was 1-4 with an RBI. Wilson Contreras went 1-1 as a pinch hitter knocking in 2 RBIs. There were more Cubs players who wanted to contribute also. Javier Baez was 1-4 with a game winning RBI in the 9th. Former Atlanta Braves player David Ross had a 2 run home run. A 4 run 9thinning left many fans stunned and in awe. This might be the team of destiny that baseball had been waiting for since David Ortiz led the Red Soxs to their World Series win. No more ghost stories or talks of make believe curses please. There are many scary movies and stories out there. Let’s end talks of baseball curses in 2016. There is no boogie man under your bed or a stray goat roaming the streets. Enjoy the games and fall n love with baseball all over again.
